What it does mean is that, because you have a lower credit score, and you run a higher risk of defaulting on your loan, the banks expect to be paid a higher rate of return. If you were investing your money in a high-risk mutual fund, wouldn’t expect to get a higher return on your investment? Greater risk means the potential for greater reward (or loss). The same applies when a bank lends you money. When banks lend you money, they are making an investment. They expect to earn a higher rate of return on their investment, by charging you a higher interest rate.
So this spells good news for people who have bad credit. You don’t have to feel that you have no options. If you need to buy a car, if you need to take out a loan, or even if you want to buy a house, you can. All you have to do is be able to demonstrate that you have a stable source of income and the means to be able to afford the minimum monthly payments, and you will qualify for a bad credit loan.
