Your Views about Money Impact Your Financial Independence! PART 1

By: Kathy Bibby

Our old beliefs about money aren't working anymore...

How many people do you know today who are enjoying their financial life? ... Not many, I bet.

Bankruptcies are at an all-time high...Foreclosures are all around us .... Layoffs and out-sourcing of jobs are commonplace ...

Owning your own home and being a loyal employee just "ain't what it used to be"! ... It certainly isn't likely to bring you financial independence ... oreven financial security in any way. The world is changing Big Time!

The rules of money are changing RAPIDLY and I highly recommend you embark on a major inventory of your money beliefs before you make ANY significant financial or business decisions.

For example....do you believe any of the following:

Rich people are jerks!
Selling is manipulative and/or beneath me.
If I become rich, someone has to lose.
There's only so much to go around.

Making money is hard.
Spiritual people shouldn't focus on money.
Learning to be wealthy is really tough.
I'm too old to be wealthy.

I'm too young to be wealthy.
It's hard to be wealthy if you don't go to college.
No one wants to help me become wealthy.
If I become wealthy, I'll have more stress.

I could go on and on .... Any one of these ideas -- if believed -- could dramatically limit your financial success and enjoyment. Imagine if you really believed many of them.

In reality, the financial crisis we see around us is also a massive opportunity for learning, creativity, innovation, and synergy ... IF we are ready and prepared to seize the moment.

In future articles, I will discuss some of the key ideas and practices I have found helpful in realizing greater wealth and prosperity. In this article, however, let's focus on introducing the keys to HOW DO WE CHANGE OUR BELIEFS?

The GOOD NEWS is that you CAN change your beliefs. The key steps are

(1) Awareness
(2) Acceptance
(3) Responsibility
(4) Forgiveness
(5) Gratitude
(6) Moving into the New

The rest of this article will cover the first three steps. In the next article, we'll finish the list.

AWARENESS

By definition, the kind of change we are talking about here -- conscious change -- begins with awareness. Do you want to put on a sweater? ... Well, if you do, I bet you first had to become AWARE that you were feeling colder than you wanted to feel. Want "six-pack abs"? ... If you do, you probably first had to become AWARE of what they were, and that you didn't have them!

I think you get the idea. Change begins with awareness. One of the keys I can share with you here is that I highly recommend you make it a high priority to become more AWARE of both your inner and outer reality. Notice your surroundings, your body sensations, thoughts, feelings, and deepest desires....

But you probably won't unless you learn to cultivate a high degree of

ACCEPTANCE

Acceptance is the art of allowing and accepting what is.

What is -- is!

What isn't -- isn't!

...and it doesn't matter how much energy you spend fighting reality. It's a waste of time and it actually keeps you stuck.

Let me give you a few examples ... If it's raining, it's raining ... If you just got a bill in the mail, you just got a bill in the mail ... If you are feeling anger, you are feeling anger ... If you had a thought about a new direction in life, you had a thought about a new direction in life.

What is so fascinating is that the more you surrender to and accept "what is" right now, the easier it is to create and allow something genuinely NEW to emerge.

As obvious as all this may seem right now (as you are reading about it), how often do we not apply this key life principle? How often do you fight with your feelings or your circumstances or you’re history?

One of the real choices we have is to accept what is, or to deny or judge or make up stories about what is....We could write an entire book about that last sentence, but for now, let's go on to

RESPONSIBILITY

If YOU are experiencing anger, it is YOURS -- no one else's.

If YOU decide to avoid talking to your boss about something important --
that is YOUR decision.

If YOU want to be rich, that is YOUR desire.

There is so much of our lives that we really are responsible for, and until we stop blaming ourselves and others -- and simply take authorship for these aspects, our lives and financial prosperity cannot unfold in a powerful way. Responsibility is the doorway to increasing levels of freedom and the conscious use of power.

Your friend along the way,
