World of Warcraft, Healing To Damage

So unless you've been busy beyond all belief for the past two weeks then you already know about the huge change coming in patch 2.3. Your plus healing will now also add +33% of that healing back in plus damage. Without a doubt one of the biggest changes World of Warcraft has ever seen, though it's been downplayed quite a bit compared to many other changes coming in patch 2.3

The change has been a long time coming, the biggest issue many healers have had is they were more or less useless outside of a raid. With no real damage gear they were simply stuck with no way to make gold, no way to quest, heck you really couldn't even PvP without someone competent enough to warrant the use of your heals.

Completely forget the fact that healers can now kill monsters at least semi-effectively, the global changes to how arena will be played are going to be huge. Since most healers have around 1500 healing in their PvP healing gear they will now also get at least 500 damage. Doesn't sound like much, but consider the effect this will have on a 2.5 healer team. These teams are amazing because it's so difficult to burn one single target, they can all heal each other, and come patch 2.3 they will all be able to do a reasonable amount of damage.

Now don't get me wrong, I know one dot probably isn't going to make the difference, but it sure can't hurt. It's another serious form of damage that will have to be dispelled or healed through. I'm very interested to see the wide variety of potential dual and tri talent tree specs that may come from this change.

Ryan "Foxem" L., the priest who plays on my arena teams has already stated he is interested in potentially trying a holy tri spec. Clearly his primary role will be that of a healer and dispeller, though with some additional talents he would also gain the ability to throw some damage, adding complexity to an already complex role.

Even on the most basic level this change will modify how you can secure that kill during a match. When all of the sudden you actually feel that earth shock, or holy shock from the paladin that nails you for 1,000, or hell even a wrath bomb, it's going to completely change the way these games are played and the role healers have on arena teams.

The very basics of arena are going to change forever, and I've got to be honest I'm looking forward to it. It opens up a wide variety of new specs for all healing classes. In addition the buffs to hunters should bring the class as whole into a whole new light, for once you might actually bring a hunter into an arena! With so many new and inventive changes it's easy to get excited. A well designed 10 man dungeon, additional content for casual players, new gear, season 3, game changing mechanics for all healers, rejuvenated hunters, and a whole bunch more before it hits live. I can't wait!
