Add on the level 5 water restriction around all of Toowoomba, tending gardens became even more difficult. The new Avant Garden, is not a flower garden, but a collection of public art designed and constructed by local artists in conjunction with the Toowoomba Arts Council. These temporary installations are featured in the parks, gardens and other public places throughout the city. Visitors are encouraged to grab an art trail from the visitor information centre, and enjoy! Thankfully, the drought has not affected the yearly parade, and 2007 will see the winner of the Australian Idol, Kate DeAraugo lead the parade from the Toowoomba Grand Central shopping center. Other sponsors include home loan providers in Toowoomba, as well as marketing and advertising services in Toowoomba. The annual carnival brings many visitors to Toowoomba city. It is common that motel and hotel rooms are booked out weeks before the carnival begins. Visitors are encouraged to book well in advance.
