The Warning Signs of Diabetes

By: Julia Hanf..

Diabetes warning signs can be missed due to the fact that sometimes the signs are inconspicuous. Diabetes may be present for months or possibly years before it is detected. If something is bothering you about your health or you have symptoms that you cannot explain, talk to your doctor right away.

Some commonly overlooked diabetes signs are as follows:

You are always parched as well as rushing to the lavatory to urinate. Regardless of how much you knock back, you always desire more to satisfy your need for liquids; this may indicate that you are dehydrated from numerous trips to the lavatory to urinate. The kidneys are functioning overtime to clear out and eliminate the overload of glucose in the body. If the kidneys are unable to maintain the pace, they will collect liquids from other tissues and the blood stream to weaken the sugar concentration. This presents the need to urinate as the bladder is always full. Too much urination causes dehydration that in turn generates thirst.

Due to dehydration the skin may become parched and irritated.

You may suffer flu-like symptoms. Since the glucose cannot be used properly to fuel the body, you can experience fatigue, weakness, and loss of appetite. All of which are symptoms similarly attributed to the flu, therefore easily overlooked.

You may experience fluctuations in your weight. Losing weight without attempting to can be caused by the repeated need to urinate or the body's attacking muscle and fat tissues in an attempt to procure energy. When you are eating normally, or excessively due to the body's cells starving for fuel, you should not be losing weight. Type 1 diabetics will experience a rapid weight loss, as opposed to Type 2 diabetics who will experience a slower weight loss. On the other hand, weight gain is also a symptom in that the more fat cells a person has, the higher the chance of insulin resistance exists.

You might experience itchy sensation or lack of feeling in your hands, legs, or feet. Owing to elevated amounts of sugar in the blood, nerve damage can be done in the hands, legs, and feet, a state that is identified as neuropathy. The damage done by neuropathy can take a long time to detect. Type 2 diabetics might be living with the disease for several years before being identified.

Your eyesight may happen to blur. Due to dehydration drawing desired liquid from a variety of tissues, the eyes may be harmed. Dehydration makes the lens of the eye dried out and ability to focus becomes harder. If not found and corrected, the blood vessels of the retina grow to be damaged and fresh vessels are fashioned. Occasionally this only creates slight troubles with eyesight. However, blindness can also result.

You have injuries that heal slow, or experience lots of infections. The body's ability to cure itself as it should be and avert infection is affected. Recurrent bladder and vaginal infections are especially widespread in women who endure diabetes.

Your gums may become inflamed, and tender. With the body's inability to fight off infection, germs end up running rampant. This affects the gums, causing them to become infected and sores to develop, and the bones that support the teeth, causing them to become loose. If infection in the gums exists prior to the development of diabetes, puss pockets can develop.

When glanced at, the described symptoms do not appear to present a big deal, however when examined more closely they could be diabetes warning signals. The only way to know for certain is to get a check-up. No one knows your body better than you, if something does not feel right, it probably isn't.
