The Intense Desire Of Candace Parker

By: Pat Dean (Daily 49er, Fox Sports Net Intern)

Social writer Eric Hoffer once said that talent creates its own opportunities, but it sometimes seems that intense desire create not only its own opportunities but its own talents. Some would say that basketball superstar Candace Parker has a niche for finding new opportunities after Parker added a NCAA Championship and became the youngest female Wooden Award winner to her gargantuan list of accolades.
Parker had a 17 point championship performance that included six successive free throws in the final two minutes, to lead her team to a 59-46 victory against Rutgers.
The often described as unique versatile player because of her uncanny ability to play all five positions probably picked up some of these attributes from her studying of players such as Tamika Catching, Allen Iverson, and Michael Jordan, or perhaps it could might have had something to do with her summer experience as a member of the United States women’s basketball team.
“Playing for Team U.S.A. gave me a whole new experience and helped me a lot with my game. I matured throughout the process and would say that Tamika Catchings and Tina Thompson helped me a lot,” said Parker.
Despite gaining the championship that legendary coach Pat Summit and the hierarchy of the Tennessee Program promised her, Parker traumatized the general managers of the teams that held the top picks for the WNBA Draft this past weekend by staying in school and not declaring for the W.N.B.A. Draft because of her desire to win another championship with her team.
“My team and the fans made me want to comeback because they are great and it motivated me in wanting to try to get the repeat”, explained Parker.
Even someone with a passionate desire to win such as Parker must find time to unwind sometimes. On her off day outings Parker enjoys doing things as simple as going to the park to play with her two dogs Fendi and Neno. Parker got Fendi who is a Saint Bernard from an animal shelter and had her pug, Neno since she was eight.
Parker will now begin her quest to attempt to do what Chamique Holdsclaw accomplished during her collegiate tenure and that’s win multiple championships. For Parker the off season is now and she will begin to work on every facet of her game to once again cut down the nets in college basketball final game, until then the WNBA is on hold and the southern fans will get to enjoy her for at least one more season.
