The Best Hawaii Wedding Photographers

By: Jill Andrus

Depending on where you're getting married will make a difference on who you choose as a photographer. This is because outside in Hawaii there is almost always a lot more light than necessary for photographs. This is both good and bad and your photographer should have a lot of experience for an indoor/outdoor wedding so your pictures are the best they can be.

When you find the photographer of your choice be sure to see plenty of their past wedding pictures. Mix and match the photos from different weddings so you can see from year to year and indoor or outdoor wedding pictures. This will give you the variety you need to see their experience level and standard of quality.

Some photographers will show off their photos from certain wedding locations so you can get a feel for how your photos will turn out at your venue or location. If your photographer doesn't have this you shouldn't be discourage from using them. Just be sure to see enough pictures to make a determination.

Different styles of photography make for different outcomes in the quality of your photos. Decide early what style you prefer whether it's non-traditional, photo-journalistic or photos that will look like your mother's. Not that anything's wrong with that. It's all in your choice.

You can sometimes request your wedding photos in different formats including cd, prints, dvd, or other options. No matter what you decide, don't find out afterward what you're getting because you'll have hoped for something else.

Fine points to negotiate with your photographer include how to get more pictures after your wedding. Not immediately after your wedding but later down the road. This is only of concern if you don't get a cd/dvd of your images because you'll have to get all additional prints from your photographer.

Photo albums are becoming more popular, especially custom albums, and they can be so adorable if done correctly. Some photographers are true artists when it comes to publishing your custom wedding album. Just ask to see a few samples if you're interested in this service.

Because you'll be spending more time with this person than most wedding professional, and sometimes in slightly intimate settings, you'll want to be sure they match your needs and persona. No arguing should happen on your big day. Work it out ahead of time.

For most weddings, the type of photographic equipment is irrelevant but if you're hoping to have large portraits of your wedding you'll want to find a photographer who can accommodate this. Usually a medium to large format camera is best for creating quality images of larger sizes. Digital can work as well if the camera is made for it.
