The 1M - Bone Question: How Does Your Dog Food Brand Compare?

By: Jolie Mitchel

While many people are totally devoted to their pets and constantly lavish attention on them, most of us get caught up in our day-to-day activities and problems and, while we dearly love them, don't always give our pets the what they deserve. One area where most of us tend to fall short is that of finding a brand of dog food that is going to be best for our pet.

The bottom line is we want our pets to be around, and more so healthy and happy. Their health and well-being will leave as much time for fetch and tail chasing as possible. So It really suites us all to do all we can. That being the case we need to occasionally ask, \"How does your dog food brand compare?\" in addition to \"why do you like chewing my socks so much?\"

Much is made of comparing labels on the bags or cans of dog food. So we read a label, it doesn't make any particular sense to us (although we might be tempted to try it ourselves), and feel we haven't learned much. So we read a label on another brand and it doesn't seem all that different. It doesn't really help that the pet food manufacturer will put lots of effort into proper packaging to make the product appealing to us, and by extension, to our dog.

Most pet food labels contain a wealth of information, some of it required by law. But it's up to us to take the time to figure out the importance of the various ingredients in terms of our pet's well-being. You'll want to take into account such factors as your pet's weight and age and perhaps even it's breed in comparing between brands. A petite dog may have trouble chewing or digesting food intended for a very large dog.

It should be mentioned at this point that a good dog, is in much need of two other things to be successful at his job: Love and Play. Be sure that as your doing all this information gathering you don't forget to go toss the ball a few times and express the gratitude you have to this friend who walks you around in life.

It's very rewarding to just sit back at times and watch your dog attend to it's very important daily chores. Scratching, sniffing, digging, barking and a host of other activities. Dogs even seem happier when they know you're watching them even though they may be ignoring you or at least pretending to. Just spending a little time watching your pet is reward enough for the effort you take in maintaining it's health and well-being.

So when you get right down to it, figuring our what your dog needs really isn't all that hard. It's just that we often haven't made the effort, feeling it would be too much work or we wouldn't know where to start. Read the labels again. Where was the food made and what's in it? Is there any ingredient that your pet has an allergic reaction too? Soon you'll have a pretty good idea of which brand seems best suited for your pet.

With your questions answered I think you're ready to go shopping. First look at and enjoy all the happy dogs on the labels, and then go find the one you have researched. After that buy some nice big bones cause dogs, having put up with the worst of us, deserve the best. Then go play!
