However, online sex surveys or Sex tests do tend to attract the more sexually adventurous, which can add bias to the findings. But nevertheless it is important to gather information about society’s sexual habits. Such surveys aid manufacturers, film makers and publishing houses revealing to them common trends in sexual behaviours, thus improving and promoting the development of adult products in particular spheres, giving the customer more of what they want. Sex Surveys also highlight the way that society changes and how attitudes change towards, for example - sex, homosexuality, marriage, relationships, STI’s (sexually transmitted infections), BDSM and so on. This is apparent in the swinging sixties with the ‘Free Love’ movement, spurred on by the legalisation of abortions with the Abortion Act of 1967 and the development of the contraceptive pill. The number of lady’s taking the contraceptive pill rose sharply between 1962 and 1969 from approximately 50,000 to one million, thus giving momentum to the sexual liberation of women. Attitudes changed again in the 1980’s which saw a drop in casual sex and a return to protective sex and an increased use of the condom following the AIDS scare that swept the country and altered sexual behaviour.
