Supplement your pension – Start blogging – Part two

By: Robb Stark

The way to tell them what you are writing about is by using the rel=”tag”. At the end of every post you make, choose three to five keywords you believe represents that post best and use them as anchor in a link along with the rel=tag to your favorite indexing service. I have used the Technorati blog-indexing site here as it is one of the larger ones, but you can use anyone you like for the link. If you are writing in a language other than English, most countries have similar country-specific indexing services. Now, when for example Technorati visits your blog to index it, they will understand that you have tagged it with “Dogs” and will add a link to your blog in their category called “Dogs”. In other words, every tag you use will result in a link back to your blog and this is exactly why we do it.

Now how on earth do all the different indexing service sites find your blog in the first place you wonder? This is done through something called pinging and like before, it is up to you to ping the indexing services. When you have written a new post, added the tagged links with keywords at the bottom and published it, you send the service sites indexing blogs a ping to let them know that your blog has been updated and is ready for a visit from them. Many of the different blog sites have pinging built in, but some do not and none of the send pings everywhere. This is where the excellent service of pingomatic comes into play. They help you ping over twenty services at ones which saves you a lot of time and effort. Just enter your blog’s name and web address and press the button, increasing your pension is that simple.

If you manage to keep this up for a month or two, you will for sure see that people are visiting your blog and reading your posts and be well on your way to a better pension. If you have familiarized yourself with different tools at your disposal you probably know how to check your visitor stats already, perhaps people have left some comments as well. Now let us get down to business, what about that pension supplement? The easiest thing for you to do here is to include Google AdWords, AzoogleAds or a similar advertising solution. They automatically choose ads that correspond to the keywords of the page on which they are placed and you get paid per click (PPC). This is, albeit the easiest, not the best solution. PPC usually requires hundreds of clicks to generate something even close to being a pension supplement. A better venue would be to sign up with an affiliate program which is more on target to what you are writing about and directed towards your visitors. Let us get back to your dogs, perhaps you can sign up with an online store that sells dog toys, whole sale dog food or something like this? The beauty with affiliate programs is that you are usually able to choose between several products, banners and commission types to fit your needs. If you choose an on target, well converting affiliate program one or two sales might be enough to put a smile on your face and increase that pension of yours.
