Some Questions For A Home Security Company

By: Jack Snell

A home security service is designed to protect your family and your house from a home invasion, so it pays to choose a company only after careful consideration. Most of these companies will require a lease, so it may be hard to get out of a signed agreement if it is not what you expected.

The first thing you should check is how long have they been in business. Try to locate a home security company that has been around for a minimum of five years. This will at least suggest that they will not disappear in the near future.

Does the company have all of the proper licenses? For example, do they have a low-voltage electrical license? Ask that you see a copy of the license. This may seem like it is not necessary but if the company is legitimate, they should have no problem providing you with this.

Find out if the company is bonded and insured. They should be responsible for repairs if any damage occurs on your property. Please do not overlook this as it is a very important step and can end up saving you a lot of money if something does happen.

When the company hires employees do they require background checks? I don't think anyone in their right mind would want someone with a criminal background monitoring their house.

Find out if the home security system is leased or are they selling the system outright. Each option has pros and cons so you must know what you are committing to. How long is the warranty if you are required to buy the system?

When it comes to selecting the alarm system, listen closely to what the sales person has to recommend. He or she should know the equipment very well. Many of these salesman get incentives or are working on commission which means they will sometimes try to sell you unnecessary items. Please be aware of this.

Inquire as to what the final cost is after everything is added. This will be the sales and installer costs plus whatever your monthly monitoring service costs. Also, inquire if the monthly service is a set price or do the fees increase eventually.

These are just a few of the questions the homeowner should consider when purchasing from a home security service. Check with the National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association if you are not sure where to find a home security service. They will give you a list of companies in your town. You can also get referrals for home security companies from neighbors and friends. Another good source for recommendations is your local insurance agent.

A home security system deters thieves and can provide the best security for your loved ones. Put your mind at ease and have a home security system installed and say goodbye to restless nights.
