Not all addictions come with injurious to health warnings. Nicotine and alcohol pretty much make their ill-effects heard while caffeine does not. There is a huge percentage of coffee drinkers who are unaware of the harmful effects of coffee on health. On the contrary what their knowledge also lacks is the positive aspect of coffee drinking. Whether prepared hot or cold coffee is relished by one and all.

Coffee is one of the most widely consumed beverages in the world. It is prepared from roasted seeds or beans from the coffee plant. They are mainly of two types-Coffea arabica and Coffea canephora (robusta). Coffea esliaca and Coffea liberica are some other species of coffee, though seldom used. Coffee is said to have originated in south-western Ethiopia in Kaffa, from where it derives its name as well. Coffee represents 71% of America's caffeine consumption followed by soft drinks and tea. A standard cup of coffee contains 80-140 milligrams of caffeine depending on the method of prepara¬tion.

Irish Coffee: (Serves 1)

Ingredients-
2 teaspoons sugar.
1 1/2 ounces Irish whiskey.
2/3 cup freshly brewed strong black coffee.
1 tablespoon heavy whipped cream.
Procedure-
● Combine the sugar, whiskey, and coffee in an Irish Coffee glass.
● In a small bowl, lightly whisk the cream until slightly frothy.
● Gently pour the cream onto the back of a spoon resting on the surface of the coffee, so that it floats on top of the coffee.
● Serve without stirring.
Hint: Getting the cream to float on top of an Irish coffee may require a little luck of the Irish. To ensure success, don’t omit the sugar, even if you don’t typically take it in your coffee, and remember not to stir in the cream, as the secret to experiencing the true flavor of an Irish coffee is sipping through the floating cream.

There are three versions of every story – the good, the bad and the ugly. Similarly, coffee has its good, bad and ugly too.

The good- Coffee has a strong smell. This smell is used to restore the loss of the sense of smell. Coffee is often consumed because of its stimulating properties, as an aid to beginning one's day by reducing the after effects of sleep or as a way to ward off fatigue in general. A recent study shows coffee reduces the chances of developing cirrhosis of the liver: the consumption of 1 cup a day reduces the chances by 20%, and 4 cups a day reduces the chances by 80%.

The bad- It is highly addictive. The withdrawal symptoms of this addiction become visible after a while. It results in severe insomnia or lack of sleep. Caffeine is a psychoactive substance that affects the brain and tampers with the working of the nervous system. The content of caffeine in coffee is very high.

The ugly- More than 10gm of caffeine content in your coffee can prove to be fatal. It is advised that coffee intakes be kept under check. Coffee is a legal drug so to say. The intake is not checked on the lines of alcohol and nicotine. It has to be done by the addict himself if he is still in control of his senses. A cup of filter coffee contains roughly 150 mg of caffeine and is the strongest in respect to caffeine amounts!
