Season Two World of Warcraft Ends

By: Derek Hales

If you weren't already aware that the end of season two was quickly approaching by the arrival of the PTR and 2.3 build then you could have easily guessed it due to the complete drop off of arena being played on nearly every battlegroup. Obviously as the end of the season draws near less games are going to be played. Though it's unfortunate than this slow does must begin several months before the estimated end of the season.

In order to try and play teams with comparable rating my arena teams have tried queuing at a wide variety of times throughout the week. Weekday evenings, weekend days, weekend evenings, whatever the time, it doesn't seem to matter. The closest teams we play are typically 150-200 rating lower than us.

11 out of the top 20 teams on Reckoning didn't play at all this past week. Save a few teams, most who did play simply played their 10 and called it. Of all battlegroups I thought Bloodlust might be different, but even on Bloodlust where teams are supposedly "always wanting to play", 11 out of the top 20 didn't play any 5v5 games week.

But who can blame any of these teams for not queuing? It's the sole reason why my 5v5 team has stepped back to only 10 games a week. There is virtually nothing to gain. Everyone has just about every piece of arena gear available and the 5,000 points saved up. It's sad that rating and rank mean so much that it inhibits late season play.

Beyond all of that, I'm getting pumped up for the beginning of arena season 3. Completely new armor sets always give players motivation to play again. I really hope Blizzard learns from this season's very long length and doesn't make the same mistakes in the future. With such a lack of content and achievable objectives many players are just flat out board, though I'm hopeful that patch 2.3 will reenergize many facets of the game for all players.
