Procrastinating because of procrastination

Putting off the delaying of an action which is most often directly linked to perfectionism. Those who procrastinate often experience stress and high levels of guilt. Procrastinators have low levels of productivity and often make a crisis from thin air. It is not unusual that they can become short with others as they will not be able to complete their commitments like they should. It is not unusual for almost everyone to procrastinate occasionally but it can turn into a problem if it starts to hinder their normal every day functions in life. People who suffer from chronic procrastination could be affected by an underlying psychological or physiological disorder as well.

Procrastination is derived from the Latin {words of|] "Pro" which means forward and "Crastinus" which means of tomorrow. Many people through history have produced quotes about procrastination, for example...The sooner I fall behind, the more time I have to catch up.

The are various causes with the psychological type of procrastination but it is usual for the person who is suffering from it will experience the following:-

1. Anxious 2. No self esteem 3. Self defeating mentality

It is not abnormal for them to have an above normal level of conscientiousness and this is based on their inclination to be perfect or seen as an achiever. This is in direct conflict to their realistic appreciation of what their obligations and potential actually are. Unfortunately this can mean the individual could without knowing over or underestimate the scale of the task in hand.

There have been studies into the physiological aspects of procrastination. In the main part this has concentrated in relation to the role of the prefrontal cortex of the human brain. It is here that researchers believe the brain is responsible for the executive functions like planning, impulse control, and attention and,it also behaves like a filter by decreasing the amount of stimulation that can distract other areas of the brain. If there is damage or low activation in this part of the brain then it can reduce a person's ability to filter out such stimuli that is likely to distract them. This results in them being poorly organized, they will be less and their propensity to procrastination increases.

So a job that was once not urgent higher up the list of things to complete will soon become a priority. This means the procrastinator will find that all his tasks are now urgent and because he is unable to establish any prior ties in order to get tasks completed. When in this situation such people will often be found spending time on tasks that are neither urgent nor a priority in order to get away from the stresses of the others.

One way that a person could deal with this issue is by organizing their work routine and planning every day the day before. It is essential that they allocate time at the end of each day to prioritize a plan of action {of|for|covering) the tasks that they {need|have) to complete the sometime soon. If they can then divide these tasks up into manageable elements in order to get the job done. Finishing a task can help relieve the effects of procrastination that they are feeling, once a procrastinator completes a difficult task it can help unleash their abilities, the biggest problem is getting them to that point.
