Online Books

By: Slavco Stefanoski

My first exposure to online books was in college. Although we always had the option to buy textbooks in the store, many of the professors put their books online As well. Doing this would save the students money and allow them to access the books from any computer in the campus. This meant that you never had to carry around your textbooks – a major advantage after a semester of slogging through the snow.

At first, I was not very into books online. I couldn't get into the experience, you see. It just didn't feel right to me. I like to be able to relax with a book, holding it in my hand and turning the pages. I could tell where things were spatially and remember the pages by their position. With the book online, you can not do any of these things. It strains your eyes, requires you to sit upright in the same position for hour after hour, and is extremely hard to flip your way through.

After a few years of online book reading, however, I was much more used to the process. I had already begun to buy books online for almost every purpose. I bought sports books online, textbooks online – you name it. Not only did the Internet allow me to buy printed books cheaply, but it also allowed me to access many things that were out of print.

Reading books on line isn't really that good for modern literature that you can buy in the store. You might as well either buy it or take it out of the library. The great thing about books online, however, is that you can often find very old ones with very little trouble. Resources such as Project Gutenberg allow you to access the great classics of literature from all times and places around the world. As long as it is no longer copy protected, you can legally put the book online.

Of course, the area where books online have the greatest advantage of all is with audio books. The great thing about audio books online is that it is so much more convenient than having to take them out of the library or go to an audio book store. Instead, you can simply download them to your computer and listen to them at your leisure. If you wants to take them with you, you can put them on an iPod or burn them onto CD. Audio books online make a lot of sense.
