Home | Recreation & Sports | Gambling & Casinos This may not come as breaking news but you must ask yourself, why has the US government turned its back on online poker when poker in casinos produces an immense amount of money for the state. If congress truly believed their rhetoric about gambling then why wouldn’t they cut out the state operations as well as online ones? Money could be why, the US economy has never been as bad as it has in recent years and online poker and gambling sites in general rake in vast amounts of revenue from the US citizens - but a lot of these sites are hosted in different countries. When the gambling sites are hosted overseas it means money gets transferred away from the United States. State operations like the lotto and casinos generate money that stays in the US economy, much of which benefits the government directly through taxes. Online poker activists are now trying to build a petition against what they call the “Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006” but unless the United States economy stabilises itself I doubt there will be any room for online poker in the land of the free.
