Making Life Less Stressful - Stress Reduction At Home

By: Andrew John

Stress is too dangerous to be ignored. Nervous breakdowns, clinical depressions, heart attacks are only a few examples of what awaits you if you try to avoid thinking about the stress you are experiencing. The only way to defend against it is to make yourself more resistant to the problems that haunts you.

The best thing you can do to bring some relaxed atmosphere into the house is to quit worrying about things you can't do a thing about. Adopt a more relaxed approach to the world and influence others to follow your example. If you really have a problem that affects you and you can do anything about it, just solve it. If not, try to accept it. This will greatly reduce stress at home.

The first thing you have to do is to keep remembering that no one is perfect. You have to forgive yourself your past mistakes - as well as forgive other people's past mistakes. They are past - you have to make sure they will not happen again, but casting blame will only increase your stress level without making any real difference to your present situation.

Then, try to spend as much time with kids as you can. Go out with them, visit parks, go to the cinema or bowling... anything that you and your children enjoy. Such activities will keep you and your family relaxed, reduce stress level both in you and your children as well as make you a better parent.

You can do just the same without kids of course, and the results will be similar. Going out with friends or your loved one, doing things you like doing like eating out, watching movies or walking and having a good laugh is what you need to keep your mind intact. There is one condition though: try not to think about your problems while you're out. You won't be able to do anything about them at that moment, so there is no reason to think about them at all.

In situations when stress is inevitable (death in a family, serious work problems etc.), never let yourself concentrate only on the problem that haunts you. While it may be tempting, such concentration will cause extreme weariness and make your mind unable to find solutions you crave. Always have something else you can concentrate your mind on. For example, playing in some MMORPG or reading books may be an excellent hideout where your mind may rest peacefully and after a few hours' rest get back to your problems.
