You may also have problems putting in transitions in spaces that are open and need to be closed up. If you use a new subfloor or an old one than it will give you a better finished product. The subfloor used for the tiles is probably not right for your ceramic tiles. You could put the tile down but it might not be wise over vinyl or its subfloor. You could have cracks and other problems because of the cushy flooring. If you start have cracks in even one tile you may have to replace your whole floor which could be very costly. The vinyl can warp and bend and cause your ceramic tile to become unstable. If you want to leave your vinyl there than take the precautions that you can to make things better for putting down tile.
