Home | Travel & Leisure | Travel Destinations Plan your driving experiences would be the first major thing you need to take care of. Whether you are renting an RV for the first time, or even just driving in your family vehicle, you need to be comfortable with the vehicle. Many people are prone to borrow a friend or family member's SUV, truck, station wagon or other larger vehicle for long family road trips. Know the space your vehicle requires and what it is like to drive it, particularly on the highway. Take your car, borrowed vehicle, or SUV out on the highway before you take your actual vacation. Spend some time to be comfortable with the space you need, and the space you have, as well as know all of your blind spots. If this is a vehicle you have never driven before, you also want to practice parking it a few times, as this can be one of the biggest challenges when driving a larger vehicle. Test driving ahead of time will also give you a good idea on what your fuel consumption will be so you can plan that into your schedule as well for your actual vacation. Besides understanding your vehicle, you want to have your trip well mapped out ahead of time. Use travel guides and US travel guides whenever and wherever possible. Travel guides will save you more time and money in the long run, than a trip that is poorly mapped out. If you have a larger vehicle such as an RV, you want to stay away from interstates that have frequent traffic at high-speeds. Make sure your travel guides also give you city specific information. You don't want to be driving through cities during their rush times. Use your travel guides to help you choose alternate routes if necessary. Keep in mind when you choose your alternate routes that you are fully informed about them in terms of their width, conditions, and construction issues. Plan your route around the weather conditions in every area that you will be driving in. Poor weather conditions are difficult to drive in when you are familiar with the vehicle. When you are not, the situation becomes even more challenging. You can also get online specific travel guides geared to weather. For larger vehicles, take note of areas that are known for high winds. The more road trip planning you do ahead of time for your RV or road trip vacation, the more you will do to ensure a fun time is had by all. When you are living on the road for days at a time, there is no such thing as too much planning. Article Source: http://www.articlewheel.com
