The future of marketing for your home based business belongs to entrepreneurs who are not trying to appeal to everyone. By trying to appeal to everyone you end up attracting nobody! By not standing out you appear to be like all your competitors – a commodity to be bought and sold. 

Thanks to the internet many entrepreneurs can for the first time focus instead on the segment of the market that they find ideal. Do you want to work exclusively with young professional women? Or perhaps, newly retired yet active people – no problem.

When prospecting, some people you encounter will adore you – why not work with that type of client rather than those people who end up giving you a headache every time you see them?

This is your home based business, and one of the key reasons you decided to be your own boss was to improve the quality of your life! Working with people you enjoy being with is a key factor – you just need to be willing to sort thru enough people till you find the right ones. Trust me it is worth every bit of effort.

Sit down now and list all the qualities of your ideal prospect and client. Are they highly educated – or highly motivated. Do they enjoy business relationships or do you prefer everyone stay at arms length?
Are you looking for people who are willing to see you as their trusted advisor?
Are you ideal clients punctual and do they hold you in high esteem?

I advise you to start treating your customers like clients instead. Look up the two terms in a dictionary and you'll see a significant difference. Changing that one element in your business strategy can make a world of difference in your relationships – and in your bottom line.

When prospecting your job is to communicate with your potential clients that you alone understand them like nobody else. You alone understand what they have gone through and you are their best means of them getting what they want. You intend to be their lifetime Trusted Advisor.

The world is so busy today that people don't have the luxury of being an expert at everything. They need entrepreneurs like you they can trust with matters they don't have time or a passion to understand the way you do.

People (as in your prospects and clients), want to feel understood. Look up the word empathy as well and build your communications around that philosophy. People will naturally gravitate towards you because people want to work with some one they like and trust. When you understand the meaning of empathy you'll have made another major leap forward towards being a successful home based business entrepreneur.

So I ask you: What can you do today to upgrade your prospecting & client list? How would you like to be treated ideally? In all likely hood your client would like to be treated the same way.

Spend a few minutes to clarify your ideal target market and then begin asking your conscious & unconscious mind to lead you to take the steps to locate them, and acquire them. As a Home Based business entrepreneur prospecting is essential; and with the tips offered in this article it can become fun as well.
