The Defensive Handgun course teaches skills that require quick thinking and split-second decision making. Everyday in the news there are multiple stories of home robberies that could have been prevented or at least saved lives if the victim had firearm training from a place like Front Sight. Gilroy Smith was a family man who had helped raise his granddaughter while his daughter served in Iraq. Smith was found beaten to death and bound in his apartment in Brooklyn on Sunday, January 13th. A neighbor found him on his back with his hands and feet bound. The neighbor said, “Everything was thrown all over the place.” Front Sight is located on 550 acres of land in Nevada and along with practical, hands on training, Ignatius Piazza makes sure his courses include lectures, such as the “Color Code of Mental Awareness”, that teach students how to think intelligently during the life saving 1.5 seconds that a victim has, rather than reacting in a way that is detrimental to the victim. Many Americans do not consider places like Front Sight when deciding on where to learn self-defense. Gilroy Smith was only 49 years old and the way he died was tragically unnecessary. He was taking care of his granddaughter, who is 2 years old, while his daughter served with the Army in Iraq. His daughter now lives upstate and was traveling to Brooklyn on Sunday after she learned of her father’s death, Mr. Palmer said. Fortunately, his granddaughter was not in the apartment and was unharmed (Ann Farmer, NY Times). The story of Gilroy Smith, while sad, is not especially shocking because home robbery occurs everyday in every state and city in the nation. Many people, because of their misconceptions about guns, do not consider this type of self-defense. That is why Front Sight is perfect for the person who has never held a gun because the courses emphasize safety first, especially when there are children present in the household. Family men like Gilroy Smith is the reason Ignatius Piazza founded Front Sight. After a drive-by shooter attacked his neighborhood, he decided he’d had enough of being a potential victim and started a quest to learn the best self-defense skills the nation had to offer. With that goal accomplished he created Front Sight so that the finest maneuvers in self-defense were available to the average man, woman, and child. Article Source: http://www.articlewheel.com
