Ezine Advertising - Does It Really Help?

By: Joe Mateno

Advertising in Ezines was once one of the most effective forms of advertisement. But is that still true today? The answer is both yes and no.

Look times are different now. Before you advertise in an ezine, you have to consider a couple of important points.

The most important point you have to realize is that you only want to choose ezines that actually deliver results. But the sad fact is that most of the ones that get you the best results are terrible expensive to advertise in or not accepting advertisements other then their own.

Most 'ezines' that are sent via email today are actually just written in letter form, and sent out to the list of subscribers. The only advertisement is within the letter, and the links are those that the publisher of the email will profit from.

This doesn't mean that there aren't any good ezines out there you can pay advertising in. The only downside is that usually the lists are just starting to grow and aren't very big. They usually write old style types of ezines with some articles, resources and ads.

Again, if you found a person who published an ezine that had a high number of subscribers, and those subscribers are buyers, you probably won't be able to run an ad in that ezine - not in the usual way anyway.

That doesn't mean you can't get an ad in. You need to be creative. Contact the ezine owner, ask them to sign up for your affiliate program and offer them higher commissions, e.g. 75% instead of 50%. Make them feel special.

Never pay to advertise in an ezine that you have not read! You want to make sure that what the publisher is sending out is suitable, and valuable to the subscribers.

Also, if you invest, ask those figures. Ask if they can proof their claims like open rates from previous owners, people on their list, etc. A lot of ezine owners are dishonest about those. But this doesn't mean you'll get same results since it does depend on your ad, too.

Never be satisfied with cheap bottom sponsor or classified ads. Try to always get those top sponsor or solo ads for best results.

Last thing I'd like to add to all this is that the very best ezines also sell their ads through online networks. These will give you real bang for your buck as they'll make sure to send your ad to a bunch of very high quality lists.
