Country Club Golf

By: adrian calow

Most country club golf courses allow golfers to pay a green fee and you need to consider how much golf you are going to be playing before deciding wether the membership fee is to be justified.

If it costs you $25 to play a round and you only ever play Sunday mornings then you are only spending $1300 a year on your golf. If your local country club wants say $2000 for an annual membership then it would be silly to take up the offer unless you were going to make use their other facilities such as tennis courts etc. Play two rounds a week however and obviously it is a different story and you should join the club.

Country club membership isn't just about golf though and you should check what else is on offer such as a sauna and spa, gym, pool, tennis courts etc. As a golf player you should find out if there is a members league, how many competitions a week etc. Also, if you are taking a family membership, what is the youth program like for the younger members of your family and is there much for your partner to get involved in if golf is not there thing.

Some club memberships carry a lot of status for their chosen members and this could be important if you run your own business and your target market are the affluent. These clubs can also give your teenage children a step up the ladder once they reach adult hood. Being known to the wealthy and elite of their community is going to be a big advantage once college is out of the way and a job is required.

If you are a typical golfer though your main concern will be the golf course and golf so check out other advantages to membership that are often included. Many clubs for instance offer between a 10% and 20% discount in the club house, a discount to any none members you may bring along for a game and quite often you will be entitled to preffered tee off times.

If you have only recently moved to an area and are unsure which country club to join, many offer a monthly membership so you can try them out befor taking the plunge and taking out an annual subscription.

Country clubs sometimes have property for sale set amongst and around the golf course itself. These properties usually come with country club golf membership included. One such country club is Collier's Reserve in Naples, Florida. Situated along the Cocohatchee River it offers its homeowners the chance to enjoy fishing and boating as well championship golf. Now thats what I call a great life!

This type of country club has been hugely popular for some time now in Europe, particularly Spain and Portugal. Thousands of people from England and other northern European countries take early retirement and move there for the sunnier climate and superb country club golf.
