In the absence of this, you will have that duty to look for an appropriate topic. That is, finding what to write about and finding something to say about it. This will of course be the most demanding part of your writing. Finding a topic you really have something to write on will be half the task. The secret is simple. Find the topic and if you are passionate and well versed about the topic, words will flow naturally. Next you will need something to say about your subject matter. These will be available in the form of facts, figures, experiences, reports and examples. You need to make every material at your disposal understandable and persuasive to your teacher and other readers. Resources to this abound everywhere. Write down what you know about the theme, what you have encountered, observe the unfolding of things around you and gain knowledge from reading what others have written on that subject matter. At times, it may be advisable to imagine possibilities and consequences. All these will go a long way to breathe life into your essay. Having discovered a theme and the materials to back up your ideas, you have to sort out the bare essentials and rank them in order of priority. Arrange your ideas in what seem clear and sensible orders that will make your point clear to the reader. Sometimes it is necessary to make a draft of your essay because you might reconsider your plan at one point especially if the topic was given to you or if you are not familiar with the topic. However, put into your essay definitions, illustrations and evidence to make your ideas clear. College essay cannot be concluded without a revision and editing of your work. Whether you are writing in class or at home, keep in mind the notion of time. Give yourself a time limit and work within that time. Looking back at your work must not necessarily come at the end of the work. It comes in at every moment when you stop to think or reread what you have written down.
