You'll often hear people say they need more motivation to work towards their goal, which is true to an extent. Though I would argue that if you want to do something then you have all the motivation you need. You just need to get rid of the things that are stopping you from taking action. When I was a student I would often delay starting on my homework. I would seem like too much effort, I wasn't sure if it would be done well, and there were always more interesting things to spend my time doing. I would put it off till the last minute, at which point I'd realise that I would suffer even more stress if I didn't complete the work. That's what people say when they need they want more motivation, they think they need to fear not doing something more than they fear doing it. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) removes the negative feelings that sop you from moving forward in the first place. When I work with clients on procrastination, we identify everything that is preventing them from taking action and tap those negative beliefs and actions away. What happens is that when you think about doing your task, your negative self-talk starts up. I'd be sitting at my desk with a blank sheet of paper in front of me, and I'd start thinking all sorts of limiting thoughts; "I don't know how to start", "I'll never get this done", "I don't understand the topic", "all my friends are elsewhere having fun". It doesn't feel good to think those kinds of thoughts so you'll distract yourself from the cause by doing something else instead. But it's not the work that's the source of those bad feelings, it's just your mind attaching negative emotions to that situation. With Tapping, you can literally find those negative thoughts one-by-one, and release the negative feeling that you associate with them. That way you probably won't think them again, and if you do, they won't have the same emotional impact, so you'll dismiss them easily. You can try EFT right now, I've made it really easy for you to get started: 1. You can try EFT right now by watching my video Killing Procrastination. It takes you through the basic steps. In order to have the most notable effects it's best to try it on something that you really want to avoid doing. Now you might not feel like you are jumping to get started straight away, but you should find it a bit easier to get started. If you haven't tried EFT before then the process might seem a bit odd, so you might find that having a look at the introductory video helps make more sense of it. 2. Check out my E-Book - For a fuller understanding of how your limiting beliefs stop you achieving your goals, take a look at my Emotional Freedom Technique e-book. It includes clear instructions on how to find the negative beliefs that stop you achieving any goal you like. It's wonderful how powerful this technique can be. For example, I used to hate tidying my house and doing the washing up. But when I tapped away all the negativity around doing those things I found I actually started to enjoy doing them. I tried this technique on a friend when we tapped all the negative emotions and beliefs that were stopping him from doing his taxes. When we had finished and he couldn't think of any more I asked what we should work on next. But he said he'd rather just go and do his taxes. You will have to be persistent, but the side-effects will be very interesting for you. Other areas of your life will benefit positively. In my personal case I found that using EFT on household chores stopped me procrastinating in other areas of my life. Good luck - Emotional Freedom Technique really can transform your life!
