Home | Business | Home Based Business Why would any person with normal intelligence pass up an opportunity which has the potential to help them realize their dreams, even change their lives forever, and for the better? There are three fundamental reasons people don’t take advantage of opportunities: The first reason is that they simply don’t recognize the opportunity for what it really is. Here’s an example: A gentleman is asked to invest in a startup business venture by a friend or family member who he has always seen as a little bit odd or eccentric. Without even asking for or looking at the business proposal he declines the offer. Why? He just doesn’t feel that this individual could have possibly come up with a sound idea that will actually make money. The individual goes on to borrow money from someone else and makes millions. Does that story sound familiar? Read the story of Walt Disney The second reason is that too many people do not trust themselves, their abilities, and their decisions. The first steps to success in anything we do are desire and then trust in self. Trust is an absolute belief in self which allows you to know that your decisions and actions will all have value and take you to your ultimate goal. We all make mistakes from time to time but trust in self means that we know those mistakes are learning experiences on the road to success. When questioned about the many failed attempts to invent the light bulb Thomas Edison replied that those one thousand, or more, attempts were not failures but rather he had discovered a thousand ways not to make a light bulb. The third reason is lack of courage to take action. Have you ever looked back at an opportunity you did not take advantage of and wished you had? Most of can point to specific opportunities we passed up and then later, even years later, wish we would have had the courage to have taken action. In some cases we later see that the missed opportunity would have changed our lives in many ways including financially. In most cases the passed opportunities are a result of our lack of courage. We easily justify our lack of courage with words like “I didn’t have the money”, “ I didn’t have the time”, or “it is not realistic”. Whatever the excuse, it really was just a lack of courage. So often people don’t have the vision, lack courage, and don’t trust themselves that they miss life changing opportunities. When the missed opportunity is later realized they want to excuse themselves in a variety of ways. Have you ever said that something is just not realistic? That is simply a statement of fear. Great leaders and highly successful people are rarely “realistic.” They are intelligent, and they are accurate, but seldom are they realistic, especially by other people’s standards. The most interesting thing is that they are seldom more intelligent than you and I. They just trust themselves, recognize opportunity, and have the courage to take action. There are real life changing opportunities out there. Stop passing over every opportunity because you feel that they are too good to be true. Instead, study each opportunity presented to you with an open mind, trust in yourself, and then have the courage to take action. Remember, Success is a Choice! What will you choose the next time you are presented with an opportunity? Article Source: http://www.articlewheel.com
