Body Jewelry? Fading Fad or Still Hip?

By: temp

Fads are interesting things and most of the time is also very fickle things indeed. They are here today, gone tomorrow type things and when you consider all of the different fads that have come and gone, perhaps the fickle nature of the fad is not a bad thing after all. We might all still be dressing in some really weird clothing if fads didn't fade eventually and while body jewelry definitely does count as a fad, there are some differences in the way body jewelry has come down that make it different from the typical fad. Body jewelry can be considered both a fad and a fashion; and yes, there is definitely a difference between the two terms.

Body Jewelry: The Fad

Whether through the use of stainless steel jewelry or anything else available on the market today, body jewelry has become a fad that just won't quit. A number of different people have been involved in the production of body jewelry and of course a number of other people have been involved in the piercing and adorning process that comes with the creation of body jewelry. Ultimately, these people are the types of people that look at body jewelry as a fad and for these people body jewelry is usually part of a broader statement that includes things like makeup on a person's face as well as the clothes that they happen to dress in. There are a number of different ways in which body jewelry has been a fad and in many ways body jewelry continues to be a fad in many of the Goth and Emo communities that exist around the world.

Body Jewelry: The Fashion

Now, while body jewelry has definitely become a fad that is still around in some places, the bigger picture involved body jewelry becoming a fashion. With the advent of stainless steel jewelry and other money saving devices, body jewelry has become affordable enough that the people that are interested in creating body jewelry are ultimately also going to be the people that are looking for ways to get it out into the public as a fashion. Things like nose rings, tongue rings and belly rings have largely become a fashion around the way and that is ultimately why more people today are interested in body jewelry than have ever been before; because of the way in which it is a fashion.

Fad vs. Fashion

We started this article by asking the question as to whether or not body jewelry was a fading fad or not. Well, as far as the definition of a fad goes, it is something that is considered hip to wear today. And while body jewelry certainly is not as hip and novel as it was when it first came on the marketplace, you can argue that this is largely because it has become an accepted mode of fashion today. Dresses that were low cut and provocative were ultimately also fads until they became an accepted form of fashion, so while body jewelry may not be as big a fad anymore as it used to be, you can certainly see signs that it has started to become part of the normal fashion culture.
