Recommended Beaches

The Isle of Wight includes a variety of different beaches. Some are small and offer a quiet atmosphere away from the crowds. Other beaches are large and attract tourists during certain parts of the year. Both types have their respective charms. Here are a few that you're certain to enjoy:

Sandown Beach - This beach is huge. It draws thousands of tourists (and residents) and offers a great atmosphere for families with small children. There's plenty for the entire family to do on this beach.

Colwell Bay - One of the smaller beaches on the Isle of Wight, it's popular with families but draws a limited crowd. If you arrive a bit early, you can rent one of the dozen beach huts.

Ventnor Beach - This is a medium-sized with a selection of cafes, pubs and even hotels. There's typically a vendor from whom you can buy fresh lobster and crab to enjoy. With plenty of activities for all ages, this is another beach that is perfect for families.

Recommended Pubs

There are literally hundreds of pubs on the Isle of Wight. Like the island's beaches, each has their distinctive charms. Some are better for food than others while other pubs specialize in providing a great drinking atmosphere. Here are a few you should visit:

The Spyglass Inn - Open all day, the Spyglass is a popular pub with fantastic food. It's usually crowded (likely because of its location and the extraordinary sea views) and has a friendly ambiance that's welcoming to families.

The Sun Inn - This pub has plenty of outdoor seating so you can take advantage of the view of the hills. It's located in a small village called Hulverstone and serves great food all day.

Fisherman's Cottage - This pub is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the scenery. It's old, small and has a lot of character. It sits near the beach (literally a few yards away!) and during the peak season, often provides entertainment during the evenings.

A Relaxing Breeze And A Delicious Drink

The beaches and pubs of the Isle of Wight offer you the chance to enjoy great food and drinks while getting to know the locals. Most of the beaches provide activities that children will enjoy. Some are much smaller and offer a respite from the crowds. Many of the pubs welcome children happily and can provide a great environment for families. When you visit the island, take some time to explore the beaches and pubs that we recommend. Chances are, you'll find yourself unwilling to leave.
