Arthritic Back Pain Treatment

Arthritis is a condition that can affect every joint in all parts of the body including your back. Essentially, arthritis is an inflation of the joints and this inflation of the joints then results in pain.

The very natural tendency of those that suffer with arthritis is to just quit moving the affected joints because moving them hurts and we all avoid pain when it's possible. Avoiding all pain, however, isn't always the best alternative.

In fact, exercising your joints that are affected by arthritis pain has now been accepted as a viable treatment to improve the situation rather than just temporarily mask the pain

Physical therapy has become a big part of treating arthritis pain. Many doctors today prescribe and send their patients to physical therapists. These certified physical therapists have a variety of tools and exercise programs designed to exercise the muscles around the affected joints and the joints themselves.

Many of these exercises cause pain when they are being done, but then help to relieve pain as they are practice over and over again.

One of the goals to these type of exercises is to gradually restore the flexibility to the affected joint and the muscles around the joint. By doing this you can in fact reduce much of the daily pain of arthritis. As a part of your therapy you may be involved in passive exercises as well as active exercises. In fact, depending upon how you are doing your physical therapist may even add some type of weight to your exercises.

A very popular form of exercise for arthritic patients is known as water aerobics. Using water to take the gravitational weight off of the body is an excellent type of exercise program for those suffering from arthritis pain. Because of the assistance water gives in taking the full body weight off the joints many exercises can be done with a higher rate of repetitiveness, thus expediting the pain relief.

Water aerobics is a method of exercise that is very often recommended for those who suffer with arthritis pain in their backs.

With the goal of pain reduction as the primary objective, gaining additional flexibility and strength in the joints and the surrounding muscles can significantly help to reduce the pain of arthritis. Reducing the pain of arthritis through flexibility and strength has the added benefit of allowing those who suffer from arthritis pain the ability to reduce the amount of medication that they must take to control the pain.
