Home | Travel & Leisure | Outdoors The origin of the word tackle goes back to the year 1,250 C.E. that was used as a word referring to gear or apparatus or the rigging of ships. It is believed to have come from the words meaning seize or grasp or also from the root of tack. It was used as a word that meant apparatus for fishing in 1398. Almost all of the gear or equipment that have been used by fishermen for the direct process or method of fishing as well as catching fish could be called as fishing tackles. Those pieces of equipment or gear that are attached to the fishing line like hooks, swivels, snaps and leaders are called terminal tackle. Some examples of fishing tackles would include fishing lures, hooks, sinkers or weights, bait, lines, leaders, reels, rods, downriggers, nets and trawls, gaffs, harpoons, floats, swivel, traps and many others. Leading fishing tackle brands would include Middy, Shimano, Preston, Fox, Daiwam Okuma and Svendsen. To understand the history of tackle better, here is some other information on fishing, fishing lures and fishing methods. Fishing or angling is basically the activity of catching fish, whether saltwater or freshwater, with the use of a rod, line and hook. Similar to hunting, fishing mainly originated as the primary means to provide food to survive. Like hunting, fishing originated as a means of providing food for survival. However, fishing is actually of considerable antiquity. There have been pictures discovered of Egyptian angling scenes during 2,000 B.C.E. That showed figures fishing using nets or rods and lines. There has also been a Chinese account in the 4th century B.C.E. that showed fishing using a silk line, along with a bamboo rod, a hook that has been made with a needle and cooked rice for bait. There have also been references made to fishing in various Assyrian, Greek, Jewish and Roman writings. The earliest fishing tackles started with the early reels and the early rods. The very first basic and undeveloped reel was made and designed with a wooden spool that has a metal ring made to fit over the thumb of the angler. In 1770, many used rods that had guides for the lines that were along its length along with a reel. The very first true reel that was used was a geared and multiplying reel that was attached under the rod. It worked with just a turn of the handle enabling the spool to move through several revolutions. Though they were not popular in Great Britain, these reels served as the prototype of the first bait-casting bait later on devised in the 1800s by two Kentucky watchmakers. The Nottingham reel was the predominant fishing reel and was a wide-drum and ungeared, as well as a very free-running reel. It was suitable for allowing line and bait or fishing lure to be able to float downstream along with the current. It was also ideal casting fishing lures for the larger predatory fish in different kinds of sea fishing. This particular reel was very influential on the reel design of the ones used for fly-fishing. Magnabait.com is the home of the Magnabait ( magnabait.com/) , which is the latest in fishing technology. Unlike some of the best fishing lures, Magnabait works by repeating several different signals to attract fish ( magnabait.com/ ), such as bass, without scaring them away. It then magnifies its effect by combining the signals. These signals capture fish’ attention and helps fishers catch fish faster and more efficiently.
