5 Steps To Get Rid Of Clutter And Enjoy An Enhanced Sense Of Well-Being

By: Patricia Wagner

Did you know that a clean orderly home can give you an enhanced sense of well-being? Living in a disorganized mess can make you feel disorganized too. Your home is meant to be a haven from the stress of the outside world, so why not do what you can to make it a more restful place?

You do want your home to be a peaceful place to retreat from the cares of the world, don't you? Stuff stored all over the place will take away from that ideal feeling. An organized home can usually help you feel better.

However, your house may already be very tidy and clean, but the tips in this article may still help you to improve how you've organized it.

For your home to become de-cluttered, it needs to be well organized, so here are some organizing tips for you:

1. Too much stuff stashed around signals that you need to either put it away or throw it away. You might also consider giving it to a local thrift store, such as one run by the Salvation Army.

If you want your home to have a feeling of spaciousness, limit the amount of items that you put in it. Obviously, that's because the more stuff you own that covers your floors, the less room you have to move around.

2. Go to a store that specializes in selling storage containers and select several in which to keep your belongings.

Take the containers home and place excess items in them. Put them in closets of the rooms where these items are usually kept so that they are nearby in case you need to use them.

These storage containers can be brightly colored to be used in children's rooms for storing your children's special toys, books and other needed items. You might also wish to invest in shelving units for your children's rooms and other rooms where they may be appropriate.

For your home office, office trays are very useful.

3. If you're like the average person, there's an avalanche of junk mail coming into your home on a daily basis. This junk mail can quickly pile up, so don't let it get ahead of you. Instead throw it in the trash right away. You'll need a large waste paper basket near where you sort your mail.

If you're like most people, you have a steady stream of trash coming into your home through your mailbox. You will need a large waste paper basket to throw it whenever it arrives. Be sure not to handle this unwanted mail more than once, but get rid of it right away.

4. Take time to organize your collectibles.

Enter each room where you display your collectibles and look at all the things you have sitting on tables and other pieces of furniture. The more you have sitting on furniture, the more dusting you'll have to do. Therefore, consider having a rotating exhibit of your collectibles instead of having them all up at once. You can put the collectibles on display or in storage in a nearby closet. Then you can switch your treasures around later on. That way the room where they are will have a fresh new look on a regular basis whenever you change your exhibit.

Glass-covered display cases can save you a lot of dusting! They are a wonderful place to put your collectibles since they set them apart in a place of honor. Again, you'll be reducing the amount of time you have to spend dusting each piece over and over and over again.

There are other types of furniture that also have glass fronts where you can display your special collection. Why not investigate them?

5. If you have not yet purchased all the furniture for your home, consider buying fewer larger pieces instead of filling a room with smaller pieces. This will give your home a more spacious look.

Imagine how much more relaxed you will feel in a restful home glowing with a feeling of spacious calm instead of confused clutter! It may take a while to get your stuff organized, but it will be well worth it.
