10 STEPS TO A QUICK COMEBACK
From simple embarrassment to outright disaster, the steps are essentially the same.

Suffering from a setback? Here are ten simple techniques to pull yourself out of a slump:

1. STEP OUTSIDE YOURSELF. You’re not as bad (or dumb, or gullible, or unlucky) as you think. Make a serious effort to take an objective look at yourself. You’re still here. You survived. Start with that.

2. IDENTIFY YOUR INNER CRITICS. Are you replaying that unfortunate situation over and over in your head? To what good? Ask yourself: When you attempt to move past this; when you attempt something new, whose voice do you hear in your head telling you that you can’t? Is it yours? Probably not. Put those internal naysayers into the spotlight. It won’t survive your close scrutiny.

3. TAKE STOCK. Surely you have some reason to be grateful! If you are reading this, you’ve got resources. What are they? Are you so frustrated or embarrassed that you are overlooking something important, or forgetting someone who could help you?

4. HUMBLE YOURSELF. You don’t need as much of anything as you think you do. If you’ve experienced a financial reversal, cut back, gracefully. If you have lost a relationship you value, be willing to spend some quality time alone with YOU. If a health issue has forced changes in your lifestyle, choose to embrace and accept them.

5. CHART A NEW COURSE. It’s been said that failure only lingers because people are unwilling to scrap a plan that clearly is not working for them. Try something else. NOW.

6. LOOK FOR THE LESSON. Maybe this is the wake-up call that will save your life. Put your ego and your image aside and ascertain what really caused you to reach this state of affairs. The way out might be right in front of you.

7. DITCH TOXIC PEOPLE! The gossip, the wet blanket, the crybaby, the underminer, the hater, the manipulator—you know who they are. Cut ‘em loose and don’t look back!

8. ADMIT DEFEAT. Nobody wins all of the time! You can acknowledge a lost cause without considering yourself a loser. Surrender. Let go of unrealistic expectations. Relief will set in immediately!

9. SEEK A CHANGE A SCENE. Even if it’s just sitting in the sun for a while. Park your problems and just be. If you can take a short trip to a beautiful place, even better.

10. BEGIN AGAIN. There are very few that prevent your starting over. Death is the only one I can think of. You’ve still got a chance. Don’t waste it feeling sorry for yourself.
