"Who's in Charge? - 10 ways on how to start taking control (goal setting, time management, record tracking)

By: T Man

At first look, it would seem that Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and positive thinking have not one thing to do with each other. But many of us that have Attention Deficit Disorder develop negative thought patterns because of the fact that we start to become frustrated by our challenges and often feelings of being completely overwhelmed. This very negativeway of seeing things then makes it even harder for us to manage those challenges placed in front of us and go forward.

Using positive thinking allows people with Attention Deficit Disorder to focus on strengths and accomplishments, which increases happiness and motivation. This, in turn, allows someone to spend more time to achieve progress, and much less time being stuck and down. The following tips shown below provide several excellent suggestions that one can use to help oneselfmove into more positive thinking patterns:

1. Always Take Good Care of Yourself

It's a lot easier for a person to be positive when someone is exercising, eating well, and getting enough rest.

2. Remind Yourself of the Things You Are Grateful For

Strains and challenges don't seem nearly as bad when you arerepeatedly reminding yourself of the kinds of things which are right in life. Taking just one minute each day to stop and appreciate the good things will make areally large difference.

3. Instead of Making Assumptions, Look for the Proof

A fear of not being liked or accepted sometimes makes us assume that we know what others could bethinking, but our worries are usually not well founded. If you have some fear that a family member or friend's dark mood is because of something you did, or that your co-workers are secretly gossiping about you behind your back, speak up to ask them about it. Don't waste time worrying that you did anything wrong unless you have real proof that there is truly something to worry about.

4. Don't Use Absolutes

Have you ever told someone "You're ALWAYS late!" or complained to a loved one or friend "You NEVER call me!"? Speaking and thinking in absolutes like 'always' and 'never' makes the situation seem worse than it is, and puts programming into your brain so that you believe that certain people are unable to deliver.

5. Don't Have Negative Thoughts

Any thoughts you may have can't achieve any power over you if you don't permit them. At those times when you notice yourself having a negative thought, make sure you detach yourself from it, witness it, and sure not to follow it.

6. Smash the "ANTS"

In his fascinating book "Change Your Brain, Change Your Life," Dr. Daniel Amen speaks about Automatic Negative Thoughts - "ANTS". These are those bad thoughts that are usually reactionary, like "these people over there are laughing, they must be talking about me," or "You say the boss wants to see me? Did I do something wrong?" When you recognize thoughts like this, realize that they are only ANTs and squash them!

7. Practice Squeezin', Touchin' and Lovin' (Your Friends and Family)

You are not required to be an expert to have an appreciation of the benefits of a nice hug. Having positive physical contact with loved ones, friends, and even pets, gives one an instant boost. A research study on this particular subject had a waitress touching some of her customers' arms as she gave them their checks. She received higher tips from these customers than from anybody she didn't touch!

8. Get Involved in More Social Activity

By getting involved in more social activity, you decrease loneliness. Be sure to surround yourself with people who are healthy and happy, and the positive energy they radiate will affect you in a very positive way!

9. You Can Be a Big Help by Volunteering for an Organization, or by Assisting Another Person

Afer helping everyone feels good. You can volunteer your time, your money, or your resources. The more positive energy let loose upon the world, the more you will get back in return.

10. Use Thought Pattern Interruption to Stop Rumination

If you fall into ruminating, a great way to stop it is to interrupt your thought pattern and make yourself do something that is completely different. Rumination amounts to extreme focus on something negative. Rumination is never productive, because it's not rational or solution-oriented, it only represents excessive worry. You can deal with it by trying to change your physical environment - sit outside or go for a walk. You could also pick up a book, call a friend, or turn on some music.

When considering the corporate world, protocol is seen as pretty much the religion. Understanding the things to do represents the fundamental basics of productivity, but having a steady mind and interaction comprises the entire thing to represent true productivity. There are those who appear to work well even if under pressure, but they are not common individuals and we are just human and imperfect. If we get these little things like stress under our skins, our problems won't be solved. Sometimes it calls for a bit of courage to confess to oneself that we're becoming workaholics than admit to ourselves that we're not doing our best.
